Topic 3: Managing Digital information on a Computer

Managing Digital information on a Computer

it is very  important  to  have a backup of your information data . is the most important aspect of your computer. The operating system can be reinstalled and so can applications, but it may be difficult or impossible to recreate your original data.
It is essential that you always back up your important information and have a plan for recovering from a system failure. An attacker could crash a computer's operating system or data may be corrupted or wiped out by a hardware problem. Computers can be lost, stolen, or destroyed in a fire or other catastrophe.
You should back up your personal or critical work data on a regular basis. This means copying your files over to a protected system that you can access when those files are needed.

how to backup data

External drive:  You can buy an external drive, which is a hard drive that you connect to your computer by a USB cord.

Internet: Another option is to back up your data on the Internet, also known as “the cloud.” Unlike buying an external drive, this option is oftentimes free and requires no extra hardware. Websites such as Mozy will guide you through this process step by step, and it’s normally very painless.
There are other options you can use (internal hard drive, DVDs, RAID), but they are more involved and I don’t suggest you use them unless you’ve got advanced computer skills.

Topic 1: Learning possibilities supported by the Internet

Topic 1

Creative Commons Licences

A creative commons licences is one of several public copyright license that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use and build upon a work that they have created. CC provides an author flexibility for example, they might choose to allow only non-commercial uses of their own work) and protects the people who use or redistribute an author's work, so they don’t have to worry about copyright infringement, as long as they abide by the conditions that are specified in the license that the author has specified.

how you think it can be incorporated into training institutions in South Africa

1.

Content can be adapted over time by multiple users. Content authors can control who can see and change their content, and can apply to their work a variety of rights and permissions from All Rights Reserved to Creative Commons open sharing, to enable crowdsourcing collaboration and remixing of content.

2

Users can create and store materials  and then extend their content by sharing and making it discoverable to instructors across working groups, courses and institutions. Content is delivered through the cloud to users.

3.

South African intsitution can able to sheare safe information through the autharization process this means that the information that the is sent to users online is protected.and the information can be identified if its based on issues such as plagarism .

.intistutions can able to protect the copyright of work this means that the law of the creative licens will able to protect the copyright of the material that is used such books.protects the people who use or redistribute an author's work, so they don’t have to worry about copyright infringement, as long as they abide by the conditions that are specified in the license that the author has specified.

5

South Afircan Institutions need to be able to licence in both learning materials from outside as well as to control how their own materials are used more widely.
Sharing resources amongst similar institutions makes sense financially and there are many policy reasons to do so. Digital resources produced by publicly funded organisations are a valuable asset to the research and education community.

2.Evaluation of the Microsoft website First impressions are the most important factors to take into consideration when designing a website and these are the factors that attract people to the website: The URL needs to be short and simple. The best URLs are intuitive. Feeling of wanting more – Depth of site - The site should strive to create a feeling of wanting more in the user. The goal should be to get the user to stay as long as possible and to come back to the site again. Contact details - Providing immediate contact details such as e-mail addresses and telephone numbers on the homepage will give the site an open feel and add a personal touch, thus increasing user confidence and trust in using the site. Are users made to register to get into site? - Forcing users to subscribe or register on the home page before continuing will not be appreciated and may turn users away. Users will only identify themselves when they are ready. Look and feel – Readability. Pages should be easily readable, clear and easy to understand .
